About Us

Reliance Industries Limited was granted an in-principle approval by the Reserve Bank of India ('RBI') to establish a new Payments Bank under the Banking Regulation Act, 1949. It then partnered with the State Bank of India to support this ambitious initiative of building Payments Bank capabilities for every Indian and accordingly, Jio Payments Bank Limited, was incorporated in November 2016.

With the track record of the Reliance Group of leadership in chosen areas of businesses and large scale roll-outs, the Payments Bank initiative is seen by Reliance as a significant opportunity to make a transformative impact on India’s financial inclusion landscape to lead and co-create an eco-system to provide accessible, simple and affordable banking solutions to all constituents of our country - especially the financially excluded, to digitise payments and to act as a catalyst towards a cashless society

Dr. Vivek Bhandari is the Chairman of the Board. He was earlier the Director and Professor of Social Science at the Institute of Rural Management, Anand (IRMA). He serves on the boards of many professional and academic institutions, as well as committees convened by the Indian government on matters pertaining to rural development. He has worked with the World Economic Forum, and held academic positions at numerous academic institutions such as the University of Pennsylvania, Hampshire College, and the Tata Institute of Social Sciences.

He has completed his B.A. (Honours) and M.A. from St. Stephen’s College, Delhi. He went on to receive a second M.A. and Ph.D. from the University of Pennsylvania, Philadelphia.

H. Srikrishnan is an accomplished banking professional with experience in leading private sector and foreign banks for over two and a half decades. He was the Executive Director and core member of executive team of YES Bank in India providing overall strategic direction to the bank and had direct responsibility for setting up Technology, Operations and Infrastructure for all Retail and Transactional Banking activities. Prior to joining YES Bank, he was part of the founding management team at HDFC Bank as the Country Head – Transactional Banking and Operations. Thereafter, he co-founded VAYANA, a B2B Supply Chain Financing network and online product company serving over 35 banks across India, Middle-East and Africa. Early in his career, he has also worked in various capacities with the Emirates Bank, Dubai and Bank of America in India for over a decade.

He holds a Post Graduate Diploma in Business Administration from the Loyola Institute of Business Administration, Chennai and has a Bachelor's Degree in Commerce from the University of Madras.

Alok Agarwal, has been the Chief Financial Officer of Reliance Industries Limited (RIL) since 2005. He joined Reliance in 1993 as Treasurer and has been responsible for managing all of the groups financial resources, banking relationships and capital market transactions for over two decades. Reliance has won several accolades in this period for its financing transactions risk management and investor relations. Prior to joining RIL, he was with Bank of America for 12 years in a variety of roles.

He holds a Post Graduate Diploma in Management from IIM-Ahmedabad and a B.Tech in Electrical Engineering from IIT-Kanpur.

Manju Agarwal - Nominee Director – State Bank of India

Manju Agarwal has a career span of over three decades in the banking sector. Her last assignment with State Bank of India, was the Deputy Managing Director (Digital Banking and New Businesses), wherein she was responsible for rolling out new digital initiatives in the Bank. She was also responsible for Debit Card Strategy, Acquiring Business, Transit solutions, Transaction Banking Business and Government Business of the Bank. She has also worked in SBI’s office at Frankfurt as Vice President (Trade) and thereafter as the Deputy Managing Director and Chief Operating Officer – National Banking Group of SBI, wherein her key responsibilities included banking operations, expanding and maintaining distribution network, ensuring customers’ migration to alternate channels, efficient performance of the delivery platform and improving customer service.

She holds a Master's Degree in Arts and is a Certified Associate of the Indian Institute of Bankers.

Rajendra Kumar Saraf has been a professional banker with vast experience in varied assignments with State Bank of India (SBI), both in India and abroad. He has held many key top level positions in SBI such as Deputy Managing Director & CFO, Deputy Managing Director (Corporate Strategy & New Business), Chief General Manager in charge of 1200 bank branches and Chief General Manager (Information Technology). He was a key member of the founding team at SBI Life Insurance Co Ltd and instrumental in launching Bancassurance in the country. He has successfully implemented many mega IT projects, which were among the largest of their kind globally. He has served on the Board of NPCI, Asia Pacific Advisory Board of MasterCard and many Committees constituted by RBI. After superannuating from SBI, He has been mentoring two important initiatives conceptualised by RBI, viz., Bharat Bill Payment System (being executed by NPCI) and an Online Exchange for MSME Trade Receivables Discounting (TReDS).

He holds a Master’s Degree from IIT Kanpur and Diploma in Financial Management from Mumbai University. He is a Certified Associate of the Indian Institute of Bankers and a Fellow of the Insurance Institute of India.

Manisha Girotra has more than 25 years of investment banking experience, with extensive cross-border M&A expertise across a broad range of industries. She is currently the Chief Executive Officer of Moelis India. Prior to that, she was CEO and Country Head of UBS in India managing its investment bank, commercial bank, markets, equity research and wealth management divisions. She has appeared in Business Today's "25 Most Powerful Women in Business in India” for the past six years as well as Fortune India's "50 Most Powerful Women in Business" in 2014 and 2015.

She holds a degree from St. Stephen’s College and received a gold medal for her Master’s Degree from the Delhi School of Economics.

Ketan Dalal - Independent Director

Ketan Dalal has extensive experience on cross border tax issues and investment structuring, including mergers and acquisitions. He was the Joint Head - Tax and the Managing Partner (West) and a member of the India Leadership Team with PwC India. He has co-founded the leading tax practice of RSM which later merged into PwC in the year 2007. He now runs an advisory boutique, Katalyst Advisors LLP, specialising in structuring and taxation assignments. He was a member of the ‘Working Group on Non-resident taxation’ formed by the Ministry of Finance in 2003. He is a member of the Managing Committee and the Chairman of the Direct Tax Committee of IMC Chamber of Commerce, Mumbai. He has been a member of several SEBI committees including SEBI’s High Powered Advisory Committee (HPAC) on consent orders and compounding. International Tax Review, a leading global magazine on international tax, has listed him among India’s leading tax advisors.

He is a Fellow Member of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of India.
